Russ Haas Memorial Show - Feb. 2, 2002

Credited to Jersey ALl Pro Wrestling

On behalf of Jersey All Pro Wrestling, I would like to personally apologize to the over 60 fans that were turned away at the door last night. There were a little over 400 fans and unfortunately a few "freebies" found their way in the building and cost the paying fans a chance to see the show. Earlier in the week I announced that no one would be turned away at this event, I was under the impression that we were able to hold 500 in the Charity Hall. I now know that our fire code is 400.

At 8:05pm, Bayonne Police Department ordered us to put a "sold out" sign on the door and did not allow any more fans in the door. Fans who could not get in, their names and addresses were taken and will be compensated at a future event. The first 32 fans that were turned away, received JAP home video tapes. We have not forgotten about the other fans that were also turned away, they will also be taken care of.

Jersey All Pro Wrestling is desperately seeking a new building in Bayonne, last nights attendance and TV, we are expecting our crowd to double within the next couple months.

Thank you to everyone who attended last night and supported this event for the Haas family, it was a huge success and couldn't of been done without your support. Thank you.

See you all on March 1st at the Haas of Pain, formally known as the Charity Hall!

Sincerely.

85 wrestlers from 14 states came to Bayonne, New Jersey to honor Russ Haas last night at Charity Hall in Bayonne, NJ in front of an overflow crowd of 340, raising $5,000 for the Hass family.

The show began with JAPW promoter Frank Iadevia and the JAPW locker room emptying to an loud emotionally charged crowd there to pay tribute. Iadevia gave his thoughts on the meaning of the night, choking back tears.

A great video featuring Russ and Charlie Haas was then played for the crowd, to the tune of Sarah McLaughlin's "I Will Remember You" and the Haas Brothers theme song AC-DC's "TNT".

Watching huge guys like JAPW's Homicide and the Hit Squad openly crying, along with many within the crowd made for a moving beginning to the evening.

Charlie Haas, with Russ Haas's wife Deidre spoke to the crowds, thanking them for coming. He told of how he'll carry out his brother's dream for him.

Then, the matches...

Ghost Shadow/Jay Lethal over Deranged/Rainchild
Nice lucha style opener...

NWA Virginia Champion Jacey North over Chino Martinez

JT Jobber over Katerina Heiss

The running gimmick has been that JT has been coming out and telling the crowd "he's not a momma's boy". Katerina Heiss comes out to an impromptu match. Jobber eventually broke out the "brass" knuckles and knocked her out with a punch for the pin.

IPW Hardcore/Florida's Seijin Akki over Crazy Ivan

Shaolin Wrecking Crew beat up a few teams: Christopher Street Connection, Suba and Magic and Dave Greco and Orphan The lights went out and old JAPW favorite Lowlife Louie Ramos runs in, nails them with chair shots. Laithon and Kory K came out to a staredown to presumably setup future matches.

Slyk Wagner Brown (with April Hunter) over Stryker

Big Unit over Don Montoya/Mike Quackenbush

Along with wrestling...this was the comedy match of the evening. Montoya and Quackenbush are masters at a comedy match that's actually funny.

Boogie Knights over Elax/Ric Blade (with Donnie B.)

Excellent match. Hampered slightly by the low ceiling at Charity Hall. Some psycho spots by Elax and Blade.

Kid Kruel (with Allison Danger) over Low-Ki

Far better than I expected. Best pure wrestling match of the night, with a nice mix of arm and leg submissions, no freaky stuff so I was disappointed.

Charlie Haas over Devon Storm and Simon Diamond (with Dawn Marie)

Hit Squad over IPW-Hardcore/Florida's Shane Brothers: Nice stiff physical match. One of the rare times that JPW fans get to see a team physically matches up with the Hit Squad. After the match, the Boogie Knights attack the Squad and steal the belts to set up the next set of matches for the Hit Squad.

Dixie defeated Insane Dragon and Homicide to unify the JAPW Heavyweight, JAPW NJ State and JAPW Light-Heavyweight Titles.

Homicide's "Copkiller" finisher is legitimately one of the scariest looking moves anywhere....more or less a backdrop driver type move.

This was a memorable and moving evening...and did Russ Haas's memory proud.
